Overview

To inspire great volunteers in the Boy Scouts of America, and to provide the necessary environment for young people to be prepared to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes, by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law.

Manpower

Dedicated to continual volunteer recruitment, engagement and retention as well as supporting the council staff.

Laurel Highlands Council Staff
  • Directly supervises the rangers and caretakers of seven camps, two conference centers, three service centers and a program staff including a Camping Director and Director of Special Projects
2017 National Jamboree Staff
  • Served as staff on the Extreme sports team, low gear – mountain bikes.
Enterprise Risk Management Committee
  • Staff advisor for committee protecting the entire council from unnecessary risk.
Additional committees
  • Oversees and provides additional support for many council committees including Camping and Outdoor Promotion, Properties, Advancement and C.O.P.E. and Climbing.
2019 World Jamboree Staff
  • Serving as Chief of Staff for Sub-Camp 2 at the 2019 World Jamboree and recruiting additional staff to fill sub-camp roles.
Recently Recruited Volunteers
  • Recent additions include Program Chair and table sales members for the Eagle Scout Recognition Dinner, Council Activities Committee Chair, Property Chair for primary resident camp and Camp Master Chief for a short term weekend camp.

Finance

Innovative fundraising, including foundation development

Capital Funding
  • Personally secured nearly three million dollars in capital funding from individuals, foundations and national resources.
Family Friends of Scouting
  • Provided the planning, support and direction for the council Family Friends of Scouting campaign resulting in 33% growth over six years.  Responsibilities included development of campaign materials as well as overall management.
Popcorn Sales
  • Guided council popcorn sale for six years, resulting in 18% growth as well as manpower recruitment and retention.  Recruited strategic business partners to assist with distribution.
Special Events
  • Advised special fundraising events including major community golf outings, sporting clay shoots and working with major donors as part of donor ask events.
Eagle Scout Recognition Dinner
  • Actively runs the annual Eagle Scout Recognition Dinner, bringing together leaders of the community to recognize and mentor the latest class of Eagle Scouts and raising $75,000 each year.
Volunteer Celebration
  • Oversaw a multi-council Volunteer Celebration to coincide with the 100th Anniversary and the 40th anniversary of the Flag Plaza Scout Service Center, featuring the National Rockwell and Csatari Art Tour.

Program

Keeping the promise of Scouting

Campaganza
  • Advisor for 10,000 person, multi-council event bringing together Scouts, a national headlining band and fireworks to celebrate the Boy Scouts of America’s 100th anniversary.
Resident Camp
  • Increase in the percentage of campers at resident camp and day camp for Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Venturers.
MountainFest
  • Advisor to council-wide camporee, attracting over 2,000 campers in both 2011 and 2013.
Community Partnerships
  • Has leveraged community assets to form partnerships which expand camping and outdoor adventure opportunities such as the Nemacolin Woodlands Scouting Ski and Snowboard Weekends.
Camping Development
  • Full responsibility for the creation and implementation of all camping programs and budgets, as well as development of future plans.
Family Camping
  • Steady increase in family camping, increasing opportunities and consistently selling to capacity.

Membership

Proven leadership in unit and youth growth, background in Field Service

Camping Support
  • Oversees council camping programs including resident, family and weekend camping to deliver the promise of Scouting and drive membership through increased camping nights.
Field Director
  • Supervised executives in five urban and suburban districts, providing leadership and mentoring them to success.  The field organized over five percent unit growth.
District Growth
  • Has overseen growth in many district assignments, including a year attaining all membership, finance and unit growth goals first in the council, and building a district finance campaign to more than double Friends of Scouting contributions in only three years.
